From May 3rd to 8th, 2021, the Children's Medical Center of Taihe Hospital successfully performed the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) on a newborn with only 7 days old as he had fulminant myocarditis and multi-organ failure. After multidisciplinary consultation, the experts decided to use ECMO to save the life. Based on a 140 hours ECMO support, the child’s cardiac function, pulmonary ventilation function and renal function were gradually recovered.
Since the first launch of ECMO in Taihe Hospital on 2017, this technique has saved more than 150 lives so far.
