Blogger Interview – Kim from Bawaka’s Book Fair!

So I met Kim a little more than a year ago when I was invited to sign at Carolina Book Fest. CBF will not be my first signing, BUT, it was the first signing I was invited to join!! I’m really excited about it. Anyway, I met Kim through that and, hey, we both live in the Charleston area! AND we got to meet in person in July at the Authors With Southern Charm event. She’s a super cool chick and I can’t wait for you to meet her.

Bawaka's Book Fair LogoTell us a little about your blog and what you do with it.

My blog is called Bawaka’s Book Fair. One of my best friends, Jaime and I, run it together. We post releases, blog tours, and generally whatever we find interesting. Last year we had a ton of fun with our “Hogwart’s Challenge” where we wrote fanfiction and incorporated our players into the story. At the end, there was a winner who walked away with some awesome prizes!

We can be found at or on facebook at

How did you get into blogging?

Well, as I mentioned, my friend Jaime and I run it together. She started it and wanted some help with it, and I agreed. I’m so glad that she asked me since it has been a great experience and opened up a whole new world for me!

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?

I think my favorite thing about being a blogger is learning about new authors and their work.

Least favorite thing?

I think my least favorite thing in the blogging community in general is that harshness or rudeness that people (authors and bloggers alike) receive.  I want everyone to get along. Sometimes there seems to be a lot of backlash in the community and it hurts my heart.

Do you have a prized bookish possession? (ie. a particular signed paperback, piece of swag, etc.)

I have an addiction to paperbacks. If I buy one, it becomes a prized possession for me. I honestly need a new bookshelf!

What are your favorite genres to read?

I honestly read a little bit of everything, but I am heavily into romance. I also love suspense, mysteries, and dystopian.

Do you have a favorite author (or authors)? Or a go-to author?

I would have to say my favorite author is L.P. Dover because I am her PA and I adore her books! However, I have a large number of authors that are my go-to’s.  Tabatha Vargo is definitely one for me. I love anything by her and automatically one-click. Plus, she is super sweet and has such a huge heart.

You’re also a PA, how did you get involved in that?

I am always up for new experiences and I wanted to try my hand at being a personal assistant. L.P. Dover took a chance on me without even knowing who I was. It has been a match made in Heaven. We are perfect for each other. She’s become one of my best friends in the past 3 years that I have known her.

You’re involved in the Carolina Book Fest event in Charlotte this month, in which I’ll be an attending author, tell us about that and how you came to be involved with such an awesome event.

Well, Carolina Book Fest is hosted by L.P. Dover and myself. In 2014, we said, “Hey, wouldn’t it be fun to host a book signing?”  It started to unfold from there. We had an amazing signing in 2015 and are so excited to be bringing it back on the 15th!  It takes a lot of time and energy to put together such a large signing, but it’s something that we love to do because it is such an amazing experience for authors and readers.

When you’re not reading, what do you enjoy doing?

Is there anything else to do besides read?! 🙂

I love spending time with my husband, Chris!  He’s an awesome guy who really puts up with a lot since I work 40+ hours a week and then come home and work some more!  I also love watching movies and playing video games. I am a gamer girl through and through.  You can also find me on the couch during any Harry Potter marathon!

What’s something you’d like the book community to know about you and/or your blog?

Bawaka’s Book Fair is not a large blog at all, but we definitely try to show the Indie community some love! Please feel free to stop by our pages, check us out, and chat with us!

Thank you, Kim, for stopping by!! Please go check out her blog on the web and on Facebook. Gotta love support for indie authors! And if you’re interested in Carolina Book Fest, check out the event tab at the top of the page for links to info for the signing! I hope to see you there!
