What I’m Working On…

Now that I’ve pretty much got Right Place, Right Time complete (you can pre-order it here for just 99 cents!), I’ve been working on a few other projects.

One is TOP SECRET! I’ll be able to disclose more about it in early 2017, I hope. But it’s something I’m super excited about and can’t wait to share. It’s the start of something fun!

The second is Joey and Evie’s story in the JACT series. I’m having a lot of fun with this one. It won’t be a full-length book, maybe a novella. It started as a short story, but it’s growing…I’m already at 16,000 words and I’m probably a little less than halfway done with the story, so I’m probably going to zip passed the “short story” mark. Anyway, you’ve already met them in Our Moon and Hearts in the Sand, so you know they’re both a little quirky and fun, and you know where they ended up, just not how they got there. It’s been fun filling in the gaps and bringing some of the present in, too. I think you’ll enjoy seeing how they came to be, and getting an update on the rest of the group. I’m hoping for a Fall release of this one and I’ve already got my date with Pink Ink Designs for my cover (I don’t divulge release dates until I’ve typed “The End” and made a date with my editor). I can’t wait to share the finished product with my JACT fans.

Why am I not working on Alex’s story? Because he’s gotten reeeeal quiet all of a sudden. For a little while there, he was talking my head off. Seriously. I mean, you know Alex, right? He was going on and on and on, and I took some really good notes, then nothing. Radio silence! So I shelved him. Joey, on the other hand, already had 10,000 words in his pocket before I hit publish on Our Moon, so he’s just been waiting for his time to shine. And he will shine. Plus, the ideas I have for Alex’s book…he NEEDS to be the last book in the series. There’s just no other way to do it.

Last project…this baby is brand new. If you know me, you’ll know I get a lot of inspiration from music. Whether it’s just a scene for a book, a character, or the entire premise…music speaks to me. While on vacation, we were driving somewhere and a Breaking Benjamin song came on the radio. Every time I hear this song, I feel it. It goes right through me. This particular instance filled me with the inspiration for a new story and I couldn’t let it go. I zoned out the rest of the ride thinking of what I could do with it. Granted, my finished mental product isn’t exactly what the song is trying to say, but it did send me off into the little creative space in my mind where my stories develop. Without saying too much else about it –since I’ve only written the prologue and the first sentence of the first chapter — this will be a military romance. It’s going to be hard for me to write because I’m going to have a really, really tough critic — if I can get her to read it. My sister is a military spouse and she has a hard time reading military romance because she’s read a few that have been unrealistic. Yeah, I don’t really like the word “unrealistic” being used to describe a book that’s fiction because…Hey! It’s fiction! It’s make believe…pretend…it can be unrealistic. But I get it…I’ve read some books that have random stuff I’m passionate about, and there have been errors and I’ve been like, “No…noooooooo!” So I get it. (There’s no such thing as a Dodge Camaro, ok? No. Such. Thing.) Anyway…I’m hopefully going to be picking her brain, and maybe the brain of my brother-in-law, to make sure I get certain things right. Google can only help so much, you know?

So that’s where I’m at.

I’m going to be starting a monthly ebook giveaway through my newsletter, so if you don’t subscribe, you should! Subscribe here.

If you’ve made it this far in the post, congrats! I’m currently running a promo where you’ll get a signed bookmark (see below) with your pre-order of Right Place, Right Time. Sassy in Jacksonville Re-Cap

So I had my first signing!!

It’s funny how you can write a book, publish said book (or three), do all sorts of marketing for your books, talk to readers, bloggers, and other authors about all of the above…but you still don’t really feel like an author.

At least that’s how it’s been for me.

Yeah, I know I’ve authored some books—and I’m damn proud of that fact—but it’s still all so surreal until you’re at an event and the other authors there are your peers and you’re talking to readers and bloggers about your books and signing stuff and people are saying they follow you on Facebook or they’ve read one of your books…

Wow. Just wow.

It was epic.

The event was fantastic. Short and Sassy Book blurbs did a great job putting it together. I attended Sassy in Savannah as a reader and had a great time, so when I was invited to this one, it was a no-brainer for me. Of course I wanted to do it, and I was so happy it was my first signing.

I got to meet authors I’ve been chatting with on Facebook, which was the first thing that made it all seem real. Having drinks with Amalie Silver, Fabiola Francisco, and Julie Morgan? Sign me up! Then meeting more authors at the reception and signing…phenomenal. I had some awesome table neighbors. My inner fangirl was pretty well contained, all things considered.

Then the event…it was just so much fun. I loved talking with readers. Trying to figure out how to tell them about my books without giving spoilers wasn’t easy, but it was doable. I met a few bloggers that were great as well, even went live with one of them.

And my fabulous assistant, Marissa!! I have to thank her to the moon and back for traveling to Florida to meet me and hang out and be my errand girl. She got me signatures and swag and helped set up my table. Well…she set up my table while I unpacked boxes! Ha. It was so great to finally meet her in person!! We met in a Facebook takeover back in the early days of Our Moon promo over a year ago. Just one more thing that makes everything more real!

So I had an amazing time at the event, and I’m going to share the Facebook links of some of the people I connected with so you can check them out. But honestly, all the authors there are amazing, so you should definitely check them all out!

Amalie Silver (Read Word Play! Just do it!)

Fabiola Francisco (Stole a swag idea from her!)

Elizabetta Holcomb

Julie Morgan

Laura Lee (Awesome table neighbor!)

Cynthia P. O’Neill (She kept me fed with cookies while I was starving!)

Delia Foster

Amy Jackson, Editor

Short and Sassy

Diva Does 4 Good

The Ultimate Fan Blog (We went live!)

Books All Things Paranormal and Romance

And by the way…pretty much everything on that table was designed by Cassy Roop at Pink Ink Designs…she did an amazing job!! It’s all gorgeous. 🙂

Casey Evans and Decker Abrams have been best friends since they became neighbors at the age of six. After high school, Casey abruptly leaves their hometown of Charleston, South Carolina for the west coast, leaving Decker wondering where she went and why she left.

Three years later the two are reunited, both harboring some old resentment towards the other. Not to mention, Casey has been hiding a pretty big secret from Decker all those years. Not willing to risk losing Casey again, Decker follows her back to California in an attempt to save their friendship.

Will Casey and Decker work out their issues and be best friends again? Or will they finally become something more?

“Have your kissed anyone, Casey?” Decker asked after we spread out the blanket and sat down cross-legged at the end of the dock.

I laughed. “No, Deck. Guys don’t want to kiss me.”

“That’s not true,” he said.

“Then how come I’m seventeen and I’ve never been kissed?”

He looked down at his hands, fidgeting in his lap.

“Decker?” I asked sternly. What did he do?

“I may have threatened a few of the guys on the team.”

“What?! Why? How?” I couldn’t believe he did that . No wonder guys never talked to me, let alone kissed me. I knew I was plain and all, but still. There’s someone for everyone, right? All those guys that talked to me and he chased away …

“None of those guys are good enough for you.”

“Shouldn’t that be for me to decide?” I cross my arms over my chest, downright pissed off now.

How dare he?

“I’m sorry, Case.”

“Hmmf.” I stared off into the water, ignoring him.

Decker sighed. “You know what? I’m not sorry. I don’t want you kissing other guys and that’s that.”

My eyes snapped back to his. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me,” he said, looking down at his hands again.

“Yeah, I heard you. That’s a bunch of crap, Decker. You can’t just run interference all my life.” If I was sitting, I would have stomped my feet.

“Wanna bet?”

I rolled my eyes. Arguing with him with useless. He was the most stubborn person I knew, next to myself of course.

“Whatever, Decker.”

He sighed again. “I want to be your first kiss,” he whispered, so quietly I barely heard him.

“What did you just say?”

He looked up at me. “I said I want to be your first kiss.”

“What? Why? Decker?” I didn’t know what to say. Where was this coming from? Decker wants to kiss me? Why?

“Because when I think back to my first kiss, I want it to be a happy memory. And Casey, all my memories with you are happy ones.”

I felt tears well up in my eyes. Well, if that wasn’t the sweetest thing Decker Abrams had ever said to me. And I’d be his first kiss, too? Gorgeous Decker Abrams has never kissed a girl?

He groaned at the tears. “Don’t cry, Case.”

“Happy tears, Deck. Happy tears,” I smiled at him.

He grinned that boyish grin I loved so much that always got him out of trouble … with me and every other female in his life.

“So you’ve really never kissed a girl before?” I still found that hard to believe, but Decker had never lied to me before.

He shook his head. “No. I wanted it to be special, you know?”

I nodded, “Yeah, I know.”

“So can I?” he asked, scooting closer to me on the blanket.

“Can you what?” He moved even closer.

“Kiss you?” I could feel his breath on my face, he was so close.

“Please,” I whispered, closing my eyes.

His lips brushed mine and I felt tingles all over my body. His lips were so soft, yet so firm. Suddenly his tongue was pressed against the seam of my lips. It was such a strange sensation. I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do, but I wanted to taste him, too.

I opened my mouth and our tongues danced against one another. Touching and twisting, each sampling what the other had to offer. He finally put his arms around me and pulled me close to him. The kiss was amazing and seemingly never-ending, despite the awkward position we were twisted into. He eventually ended it with three short pecks on my lips.

As he pulled away we both opened our eyes. He smiled, so did I.

“Wow,” I said.

“Wow,” he agreed.

“Can we do that again?” I asked.

“Definitely,” he wasted no time, leaning in again.

Decker and I made out under the stars for hours that night. Never letting the other get too far away.

It was the start of something beautiful.

But it was also the beginning of the end.

Kate Dumont is an achiever, completely focused on her future. Playing the role of brilliant pre-med student doesn’t leave her much time for anything else. But is she working towards the future she wants, or the future her elitist parents have planned out for her?

Jay Spencer grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. He’s made some mistakes, and one in particular will follow him around for the rest of his life. He spends most of his days keeping himself out of trouble by following his passion, riding and repairing motorcycles.

Two lost souls met on the side of a South Carolina highway three years ago, neither one knowing what the other would eventually mean to them. Reunited in California, Kate and Jay feel a pull towards one another they cannot explain.

Will they help each other bring out the best in themselves? Or are their lives too different to even have a chance?

“Stupid, no good, piece of crap!” I wince as my sandaled foot comes into contact with the unforgiving tire of my hand-me-down Mercedes convertible. My scowl turns into a frown when I pull my foot back and see the black smudge across the white straps. This day just keeps getting worse!

I tip my head back, look up to the clouds, and pray for cell signal. When that doesn’t work, I bargain. My first born … my soul … good behavior … even better grades …

No such luck.

I’m on a quiet stretch of the interstate, between Columbia and Greenville, where there have been too few passerby, not one of them kind enough to pull over and help the damsel in distress. And boy do I look the part of a damsel in distress in a white sundress and sandals with long, dark blonde hair and big, doe-like brown eyes – the picture of innocence.

If it weren’t for the hot midday sun beating down on my shoulders, I’d probably be terrified. This whole situation has a classic serial killer vibe to it, add in darkness and I would not be standing outside my vehicle right now.

I lean back against the hot car and sigh. What a day. I drove all the way to Greenville to volunteer at a community clinic’s event, just to be informed upon arrival that the event had been rescheduled. They’d posted a notice at the site, which is really helpful when you’re one hundred miles away. I frown at my dirty sandal.

Stupid car. Yes, it’s a Mercedes, but no, it’s not brand new. It’s a 1995 model passed down from my father. It has seen many, many better days in its lifetime. My dad has always taken very good care of his cars, hence the reason this fifteen-plus-year-old car is now mine. My parents may be mostly absent from my life, but my dad wouldn’t have given me a beater for a car.

Truth is, I probably missed an oil change or something. Whatever. I don’t know anything about cars. Ask me to recite all the bones in the human body and I’ll do it. Ask me to name one part of a car and you’ll get crickets. I’m practically a genius, according to my latest IQ score administered by the director of the “gifted program” at my high school, so I’m sure the mechanics of a car wouldn’t be too difficult for me to figure out and understand, but this is one of those instances where I’d rather succumb to the gender stereotypes and just play the clueless female role. There’s enough information floating around in my brain without my choosing to add more, though part of me kind of wishes I at least knew how to pop my hood right about now.

Hearing the sound of a vehicle approaching behind me, I spin around to look. Smiling widely, I’m suddenly grateful for my vehicular ignorance and damsel in distress appearance. It’s an older sedan, maybe not as old as my hand-me-down, but it doesn’t appear to be well kept. I can just make out that the driver is male through the dirty windshield.

Jeez. I hope he’s not a serial killer or something? Seriously, Kate? You did not think this through at all.

I open my car door and busy myself looking for something that could be a potential weapon should this turn into Wrong Turn. Empty water bottle, a stack of flyers for another volunteer project I’m working on, a weathered copy of Gone with the Wind … I eye the book. It’s a hardback, it might be my best bet.

I hear a throat clear and pop my head up, narrowly missing bumping it on the roof of my car. I can only see his face over the roof of the car as he’s standing on the passenger side, lower in the soft shoulder of the highway. My five foot two inch height doesn’t help matters either. But wow, if his face is anything to go by, his body must be amazing. He has the most intense gray eyes, almost silver. His nose looks slightly crooked, like it’s been broken once or twice, and he has a strong, squared jaw with subtle stubble. His hair is buzzed very short so I can’t quite tell the color but it looks dirty blond, and he’s hot – er – sweaty. Yeah, sweaty. His brow is glistening with it.

He’s all man and seventeen year old self doesn’t quite know what to do with the attraction I feel. I have never felt so nervous around a guy before. Ever. I simply don’t have time for this sort of thing. Not with my AP classes, studying, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and college applications.

“Hey,” I smoothly call out to him, if I do say so myself.

The corner of his mouth lifts in a slight smirk and butterflies take flight in my tummy. He doesn’t move to come around to my side of the car, which is just find by me. If he were closer, he’d see the slight trembling of my hands and he might actually hear the swarm of butterflies.

“Know anything about cars?”

Author Interview – Lashell Collins

I met Lashell Collins a while back during a takeover where I actually won (YAY!) her Jagged Ivory boxed set. I devoured that series, and I mean DEVOURED! If you love rock star romance, you’ll want to get your paws on it. It was amazing. I think I nagged her for more Jagged Ivory a few times after completing the series. Maybe…definitely. Ok! So Lashell and I are in a couple rock star related groups together…Rock Star VIPs and Rockstars Among Us Book Club. You can also find her at the links at the bottom of the page. With no further ado, here’s my interview with Lashell Collins!

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAAbout Lashell Collins, the author:

What genre(s) do you write in?

I write Rockstar Romance, Shifter (PNR) Romance, and Romantic Suspense.

Are any of your books your favorite?

Yes. Whatever book I happen to be working on at the time is usually my favorite. That said, I am working on something right now that is very close to my heart, so I’m sure it will end up being my favorite, for many reasons.

Where do you get your inspiration from? How do you come up with your characters and stories?

Honestly, I really don’t know where the ideas come from. I daydream A LOT, so that’s probably the main way. Also random conversations with my husband, who’s a retired police officer.

Are there any characters you love more than others? Why?

Not really. I love all of my characters so much, even the bad guys.

If one of your characters called you in the middle of the nighKFamPromo-2 copyt for you to bail them out of jail…which one would it be? Why?

Ok, I want to say it would probably be cousins, Storm and Payne Kelly, and they would most likely have been arrested for starting a bar fight or something like that. Only, Storm and Payne are both police officers themselves, so…!

That is absolutely hilarious! Now I need to read those books and meet these guys!
Are there any pieces of you in your books?

Yes. There’s probably a little piece of me in each one of my heroines.

Which of your books would you recommend to someone who hasn’t read your books before?

I always hate this question because I write in three very different genres. So it really just depends on what your poison is.

Why and when did you start writing?

I’ve always loved to write, and I’ve been making up stories since about middle school, I guess. But I started writing seriously back in 2009. I had lost several people close to me, and I started writing in my grief. I found it to be very therapeutic, and I just kept going.

What’s the most difficult part of being a writer?

Marketing. I am so bad at the marketing side of things, and I find that if you don’t set up some kind of boundaries or a schedule and make yourself stick to it, the marketing will take over and choke out all of your writing time.

What’s your favorite part of the writing process?

Typing THE END.

What’s the best advice you’ve received as an author?

Write the next book. Write, release, repeat.

Do you have any quirky writing habits?

I don’t think so.

How do you handle writer’s block?

I’ve been very fortunate in that I don’t really get writer’s block. I’m a major plotter, which means that I typically plot out an entire story from start to finish before I write a single word. And my plot outlines get very, very detailed, like even down to conversations. I basically map out the entire story. So, once I have a completed plot outline, writer’s block just doesn’t exist for me.

Do you have a go-to book blog?

What is one thing you want people to know about you as an author?

I would want readers to know that they are always going to get a happily-ever-after from me. That’s something you can count on when you sit down to read a Lashell Collins story, no matter which genre it is.

Do you have a current WIP, upcoming release, or other exciting book news you’d like to talk about?

At the moment, I’m working on 5 different projects. All are in various stages of development. There are 2 that I’m actually writing as we speak, 1 that is about to begin edits, 1 that is all plotted out and waiting to be written, and 1 that is being plotted. It seems I don’t really know how to just do one thing at a time.

About Lashell Collins, the person:

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be many things when I was little – most of which I can’t really remember, but I do remember that I went through this phase where I wanted a dog so badly (and wasn’t allowed to have one) that I used to pretend I was a dog.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I have a pretty stressful home life at the moment, so when I’m not writing it’s all about finding a little “me” time, and doing things to de-stress. I listen to music, or I watch videos of concerts on YouTube. I watch TV. I read.

Favorite thing about your hometown?

I don’t really have a favorite thing about my hometown. It’s small and uninteresting in my opinion. That’s not to say I don’t like my hometown, because I do.

Farthest place you’ve traveled from home?

Farthest place was probably Panama City, Panama. Central America.

Favorite…Food? Color? Place? Movie? TV show? Song? Band? Etc…

Favorite food – Chinese.
Favorite color – Brown.
Favorite place – Vermilion, OH.
Favorite movie – Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, The Princess Bride, Legally Blonde.
Favorite TV show – Grimm, General Hospital, Grey’s Anatomy, Gilmore Girls.
(Weird side-note: Why do they all start with the letter G?)
Favorite song – Oh, my God, WAY too many to name.
Favorite band – Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators.

Any weird collections?

Not weird to me – I have a growing collection of Todd Kerns memorabilia. I have Michael Jackson album covers in frames hanging on my bedroom wall. I have a small but growing collection of guitar pics from different musicians. Hmm. I’m sensing a theme…

Any strange habits?

I will not eat deformed food. Like an M&M that’s shaped weird, or a sandwich cookie (an Oreo for example) where one of the cookie sides is turned the wrong way. Stuff like that.

My First Signing :)

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for my very first signing as an author, coming up on June 4th in Jacksonville, Florida. I attended Sassy in Savannah back in October as a reader, and it was so much fun. I loved getting to meet authors and chatting about their books. Now, I’ll get to the on the other side of that for Sassy in Jacksonville, put on by the same organizers.

Check out this line up!

May 2016 Newsletter

I’ve got my books and swag ready, and my event banner is on its way. I can’t wait to share my experience with you all afterwards. And pictures! I’ll be taking lots of pictures!

And what else makes this experience awesome? I get to meet a reader and friend, Marissa! We met about a year ago while I was doing a takeover, I’m pretty sure it was before Our Moon was even released. Anyway, I posted one of those meme games, the “Google your name and post the first meme that comes up” one…anyway, hers was “Marissa spelled backwards is Ass I Ram.” I just died, and to this day I use that game and tag her so I can experience the humor all over again. So we’re friends, fellow book and coffee addicts, and since she also lives in the Southeast, I invited her to come along as my assistant. What genre(s) do you write in?

I write contemporary romance; specifically small town, sweet and sexy (Sensations Collection), rock star romance (The Legendary Rock Star series) and my latest, MMA (Paradise Stories).

Are any of your books your favorite?

My first love is always going to be my first book, Sound Advice, but I love The Legend of Arturo King. It was one of those stories that was pure fun to write.

Where do you get your inspiration from? How do you come up with your characters and stories?

I’m a teacher and each year I teach lessons about King Arthur. One day I was driving home and I thought: “If King Arthur lived today, he’d be a rock star.” Boom! An idea was born.

My Paradise Stories were born on a trip to Hawaii. Two brothers who are fated to fight each other, each striving to find love in their life.

Are there any characters you love more than others? Why?

Tristan Lyons is still one of my favorites (The Truth of Tristan Lyons), but I love Jess Carter (Sound Advice) and Perkins Vale (The Quest of Perkins Vale). Tristan and Perkins I love because the historical tales of Tristan and Percival are two of my favorites. Jess Carter is just because we always remember our first fictional love, especially when we write him.

Any characters you hate? Why?

I can’t say I “hate” him, but Lansing Lotte was the hardest character for me to write. It’s difficult story to make a love triangle that you don’t want to be a love triangle. Staying true to the history of the Arturo-Guinie-Lansing saga, I had to though. Then I had to give him a HEA after all.

You’re broken down on the side of the road, which one of your characters would you call? Why?

Jess Carter or Leon Ramirez – they are handy men.

Are there any pieces of you in your books?

Oh gosh yes, especially in Fragrance Free. Pam Carter is very, very much like me. Hard working woman who was a bit lost in my twenties.

Which of your books would you recommend to a new reader?

I always recommend Sound Advice if you like sweeter stories. Arturo King and the upcoming Paradise Found: Cain are for those that like it edgier.

Why and when did you start writing?

It’s a long story, but the short version is in 2013 I had my third “sign” that Sound Advice needed to be published. I didn’t have the patience for a traditional publisher, especially after rejection from 35 of them, so I went the indie route, and I love it!

What’s the most difficult part of being a writer?

Self promotion has to be the hardest part of being a writer. It’s unforeseen and difficult when it’s just you and a few loyal fans. I didn’t predict how hard it would be to market, market, market.

What’s your favorite part of the writing process?

Writing!! I just love creating a new character, a new little world to live in and lives I’ll never live.

How do you handle criticism…constructive or otherwise?

If it’s constructive, I’m very, very reflective. If it’s otherwise, like a review that’s insulting and makes no sense, I laugh. When it’s rejection, I’m not good with that at all.

What’s the best advice you’ve received as an author?

Most advice I receive has been so conflicting over the years that I find the best advice is stay true to you – who you want to be as an author and what you want your books to represent.

Do you have any quirky writing habits?

I’m not much of a planner. I’m more a dreamer. I write it as it comes to me.

How do you handle writer’s block?

Knock on wood…I don’t really have it. Overactive imagination and all.

Do you have a current WIP, upcoming release, or other exciting book news you’d like to talk about?

YES to WIP. YES to upcoming release – June 6, 2016 – Paradise Found: Cain, and YES to other news…just lots more stories to tell.

About LB Dunbar, the person:

What did you want to be when you grew up?

  1. Mother 2. Teacher 3. Writer — in that order and accomplished

What do you do when you’re not writing?

  1. Mother 2. Teacher 3. Wife

Favorite thing about your hometown?

Well, my hometown is small and I don’t have a favorite thing, but I’ve lived in Chicago longer than my hometown and I love the neighborhood feel inside a large city with lots to do.

Farthest place you’ve traveled from home?

London, England or Rome, Italy – not certain which one is farther.

Favorite…Food? Color? Place? Movie? TV show? Song? Band? Etc…

Food: spaghetti

Color: periwinkle/lilac

Place: Virginia Beach, Virginia

Movie: none

TV Show: Outlander — #outlanderobsession

Song: too many to list

Band: Snow Patrol was the inspiration for The Nights, so I’ll say them.

What is something you’d like the book community to know about you as a person?

I’m rather sensitive. Too sensitive, I’m sure, and it isn’t easy to grow a thick skin like some people say. It’s hard to put yourself out there and I just wish that everyone treated each other with respect and professionalism. I try to do that, why not do it in return? Ninety-nine percent of people do, but the one-percenters can drag you down, and make you cry (see – sensitive). I want everyone to be successful, and get along with one another, and that makes me naive to the whole process.

Thank you, LB, for stopping by!! I, for one, know I can’t wait to read the rest of your books!! 🙂

What I’m Listening To

I’ve written a couple rock star romances (JACT series: Our Moon and Hearts in the Sand), and I’ve got a few more in the works, so it’s probably no secret that I love rock music.

Last weekend, I attended our local rock festival and got to see some great bands play!! This was the third time seeing Breaking Benjamin in a year, and they put on an amazing show every time. I love having a festival like this right at home every year. So much fun. It was hot and by the time all was said and done, I was exhausted…but what a fun day! I can’t wait to see who they bring out next year!

Next weekend, we’re heading up to Charlotte for our third year attending Carolina Rebellion! Check out this line-up. I cannot wait. I was first introduced to Carolina Rebellion in 2014 when I was desperately searching the internet for an Avenged Sevenfold show close enough to travel to. 2014 and 2015 were amazing years at the festival, and I’m sure this year will be no different. I can’t wait to see Shinedown and Five Finger Death Punch, and Filter again…and I’m looking forward to seeing a few bands for the first time, like Pop Evil, Red Sun Rising and Sixx AM. But seriously, I’m looking forward to everything! It’s guaranteed to be an awesome time. And, as usual, by the end of the three days I will be exhausted, sore, and sunburnt.

About you as an author:

Tell us about your books/series.3D- US Bookcover

My series is called Unforeseen Secrets and it follows to best friends as they both try and put their lives back together in some way and along the way they happen to find love. But sometimes not everyone gets their happily ever after.

What genre(s) do you write in?

Romance, suspense. I am trying to get into paranormal romance as well and have a few ideas bouncing around in my head.

Are any of your books your favorite?

I would have to say Resurrected Secrets Book one in the Unforeseen Secrets Series is my favorite because it gave me my start as writer.

Where do you get your inspiration from? How do you come up with your characters and stories?

A dream came up with my first book and the others just kind of came to me I guess you could say. I get inspiration from reading A LOT!

Are there any characters you love more than others? Why?

Again I would have to say my characters from the Unforeseen Secrets Series because they are my start, my babies.

Any characters you hate? Why?

Timothy from Book 2 and 3 in the Unforeseen Secrets Series. Read them and you will see why.

If you needed help, which one of your characters would you call? Why?

Oliva and Willow from Surviving This Life. Those chicks are badass!

Are there any pieces of you in your books?

Yes. Sandra in the Unforeseen Secrets Series has my attitude and one of my WIPs is actually loosely based off a relationship I had when I was younger.

Which of your books would you recommend to a new reader?

Resurrected Secrets because it has it all, love loss, friendship, action and new beginnings.

Why and when did you start writing?

Early August 2015, because I had a dream and thought it would be a good book.

What’s the most difficult part of being a writer?

For me it is always second guessing myself and not believing what I write is good, even though I have several people who think otherwise.

What’s your favorite part of the writing process?

Getting to make up a new world and new people and relationships.

How do you handle criticism…constructive or otherwise?

I know this is going to make me sound like a big baby but I cry. With good and bad reviews. I get emotional about my work. But I always take what I am told about my books and strive to make them better.

What’s the best advice you’ve received as an author?

Not everyone will like every book and that’s okay.

Do you have any quirky writing habits?

I listen to detective shows on the IQ channel while I write.

How do you handle writer’s block?

I step away from the book and come back to it later and re-read what I already have written and usually new ideas come to me as I re-read my work.

What’s your go-to book blog?

I have a lot. I have found several blogs that took the chance on posting a book by an unknown like me and they do it faithfully. I don’ want to name names in case I forget one. But know if you are a blogger and have ever posted my work I am talking about YOU! Thank you!!!

What is one thing you want people to know about you as an author?

I love chatting with “Fans” (how weird is it calling them that? lol) I don’t want to be just known as a romance author I want to do it all and eventually I will! J

Do you have a current WIP, upcoming release, or other exciting book news you’d like to talk about?

I have my Unforeseen Secrets Series re-releasing soon so keep an eye out for them. I also have 2 WIPs that I am working on now both are romance. One is YA Romance. I also have a Newsletter now that I am excited about! You can sign up for it here: http://eepurl.com/bRhk3f

About you as a person:

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I work a weekend job and I love blogging and reading! I also have 3 kids so they keep me pretty busy as well!

Favorite thing about your hometown?

It’s a small place where everyone knows everyone. I love the country feel to it and love the fact that if I wanted to go to the dollar store in my PJs no one would give me a second glance because they are probably in theirs too J lol

Farthest place you’ve traveled from home?

First and only place I have ever been outside of Alabama is Tennessee.

Favorite…Food? Color? Place? Movie? TV show? Song? Band? Etc…

Food would be Mexican! Yum Color is pink! Place would be the beach even though I have never been L Movie would be My Sister’s Keeper. TV Show? Boy I have a few. Grey’s Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, The Originals, The Fosters, The Walking Dead and Switched At Birth. My favorite song currently is (And don’t judge me for this lol) Love Yourself by Justin Bieber.

Any weird collections?

Anything Zombie!

Strange habits?

I am kind of OCD about things so idk if it is strange but when I clean my house I can’t spray any air freshener until after all the sweeping, mopping, dusting or anything of that sort is done.

What is something you’d like the book community to know about you as a person?

I am out spoken and usually say the first thing that comes to my mind. I am sarcastic, funny, and friendly.
